About the Faculty
Susan Hadfield, piano, received a Master of Music with
Honors in Piano Performance from The New England Conservatory of Music,
and a bachelor's degree in music from Mount Holyoke College. She
also earned a Certificate from the Kodaly Institute. She has
taught piano lessons and music classes at private schools in North
Carolina, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, and for three summers she was
a music counselor at The Creative Arts at Park program in Brookline,
MA. An accomplished accompanist, she has also taught adult
classes in both music appreciation and theory. She is currently
on the faculty at the Berkshire Music School and maintains a private
piano studio in Williamstown.
Kimberly Lorimier has been a registered SAA flute teacher
trainer since 2000 and has been teaching in Massachusetts for the past
15 years. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan in flute
performance and received her graduation certificate from the Talent
Education Institute in Matsumoto, Japan where she studied with Toshio
Takahashi. Her studio is currently in Needham, MA and she enjoys
freelancing in the Boston area. In addition to her musical endeavors,
Kim is mom to daughters Abby and Gwen.
Rebecca Lile Paluzzi is Professor of Flute and Director
of Suzuki Studies at East Tennessee State University. She holds degrees
in performance from the University of Tennessee and a Diploma in Suzuki
Pedagogy from the Talent Education Institute School of Music in
Matsumoto Japan where she studied with Toshio Takahashi. A
Teacher-Trainer for the American and European Suzuki Associations, she
has taught and performed on five continents. In addition, she is
principal flutist in the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra. She has
presented at national flute conventions in Australia and throughout the
United States and has recorded the Forty Little Pieces for Flute and
Piano with her teacher, Louis Moyse.
Laurel Ann Maurer has
been recognized as "one of our outstanding and gifted flutists" by her
principal teacher, Julius Baker. She began her Suzuki training in 1987
with Rebecca Paluzzi and also studied privately with Toshio Takahashi,
founder of the Suzuki Flute Method. Ms. Maurer became a Suzuki
Teacher Trainer in 2007. She has concertized throughout the United
States, Europe and Asia and has recorded 12 CD's for various labels
including Albany, CRI and 4-Tay. She has commissioned new flute works
from many American composers including Augusta Read Thomas, Meyer
Kupferman, Jeff Manookian, Dana Paul Perna, and Jennifer Higdon. Laurel
Ann also studied with Jeanne Baxtresser and Samuel Baron.
Amy Poliakoff, flute, has taught in New England for 25
years and is currently on the faculty of the Brookline Music School
where she is chair of the Suzuki Department. Amy's Suzuki
flute training began when she took a Suzuki Flute Method overview
course led by Jerilee Kechley at a winter workshop in Williamstown in
1998 and she has been an advocate of the method ever since. Her formal
training includes a Bachelor of Arts from Marlboro College and a Master
of Music Degree in Flute Performance from the Musical Conservatory,
College of Performing Arts, Roosevelt University. Amy spent eight years
living and studying in both France and New England with Marcel Moyse,
the master of the French School of flute playing. An advocate of
improving arts education in the public schools, Amy also teaches in the
"Making Music Matters" program at three Boston Public Elementary
Schools.
Norman Thibodeau, flute, is a performer, teacher,
composer and arranger. He was formerly Assistant Principal Flute,
Orquesta Sinfonica del Estado de México and performed in
national broadcasts of live and recorded performances as member of St.
Cecilia Orchestra. In addition he has performed with numerous
symphonies in the upstate NY area, including the Albany, Berkshire,
Catskill, Glens Falls, Schenectady, and Utica Symphonies. He is the
former director of the flute ensemble of the Empire State Youth
Orchestra. He has recorded music of Anthony Holland (Skidmore College)
for Albany Records. His accomplishments as a composer include recent
performances by the College of St. Rose Wind Ensemble and the String
Ensemble of the Empire State Youth Orchestra, a grant from "Meet the
Composer", and publication of his arrangements by ALRY Publications.
Norman holds dual Masters degrees in Flute Performance and Music
History from the Peabody Conservatory and B.A. from SUNY Albany.
